The Beretta M9A3 is an update to the M9A1 (The M9A2 concept never went into production) and was released in 2015. The main upgrades were, a 17-round magazine (2 rounds more than the previous models), 3-slot Picatinny rail, multi-color finishes (FDE, Black and OD Green), thinner grip for improved control and less conspicuous concealed carry, removable sights, and lower cost, all this were done to please the United States military to keep the Beretta as the standard issue sidearm, however, the United States Army opted to pursue the MHS (Modular Handgun System) program which then spawned the new standard sidearm, the SIG M17 and M18.
